Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Governor of Ondo State, has categorically denied any participation in the violence that marred the ward congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in different regions of the state, asserting that the unrest is unrelated to his administration.
The governor’s stance was articulated in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, as concerns mounted over the clashes that took place in Idanre and various locations during the party’s congress.
Adeniyan portrayed the governor as the political leader and a unifying figure for all party members, highlighting that his governance has consistently fostered harmony instead of discord.
"The Governor is the party leader and a father figure to all members. He has perpetually offered leadership that embraces all factions and interests within the party since he assumed office," the statement declared.
He remarked that Aiyedatiwa has established regular interactions with party stakeholders to enhance cohesion within the APC.
"He is the first governor in Ondo State's history to conduct quarterly stakeholder meetings with party leaders, cultivating unity and inclusivity among APC members throughout the state."
The governor’s representative emphasized that the isolated incidents of violence during the congress are not connected to Aiyedatiwa, referencing his prompt reaction to the disturbance that occurred at the party secretariat in Akure on Tuesday.
"The issues reported during the ward congress are unrelated to the governor. That is why he swiftly called on security agencies to restore order at the party secretariat on Tuesday," Adeniyan stated.
Regarding the recent violence in Idanre, he stated that the governor has instructed security forces to investigate the occurrence and ensure that anyone responsible faces the law.
"The Governor has also urged security agencies to probe the conflict that erupted in Idanre earlier today and ensure that those involved are brought to justice," he added.
Moreover, he mentioned that the governor has issued a stern warning to candidates and their supporters regarding actions that may lead to chaos in the state.
"The Governor has urged all candidates vying for party positions to manage their supporters. The government will not allow any disruption of law and order within the state."
The statement reaffirmed the governor’s dedication to peace and democracy within the APC, asserting that political ambitions should not jeopardize public safety.
