Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, the Convener of the Arewa Think Tank, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for extending Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi's term as Commandant-General of the NSCDC for an additional five years.
Effective from Friday, February 27, this reappointment follows the conclusion of Dr. Audi’s initial term which began with his appointment by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2021.
A statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, indicated that this renewal demonstrates the administration’s intent to fortify Nigeria’s security establishments.
Yakubu articulated this decision as both "strategic and well-deserved," underlining its critical role in promoting continuity and stability within the nation’s internal security framework.
He stated, "This renewal reflects President Tinubu’s assurance in experienced leadership. Given the pressing requirements for stability and strategic coordination within Nigeria’s internal security, this action is timely and praiseworthy."
President Tinubu has instructed Dr. Audi to enhance the NSCDC's functions so that it can play a pivotal role in Nigeria's security strategy, especially in areas where other agencies are combating issues related to banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.
Since taking on the role, Dr. Audi has improved the Corps' operational capabilities in protecting critical national assets, gathering intelligence, and implementing community-based security programs.
Yakubu also noted that Dr. Audi possesses extensive experience, training, and intimate knowledge of the institution, which positions him well to foster better collaboration among security agencies.
Born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga Town, Nasarawa State, Dr. Audi commenced his career with the NSCDC in November 1996 as a volunteer. He progressed through the ranks after completing basic officer training in 1997, showcasing decades of dedicated service dedicated to national security.
