Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, who holds the position of Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has highlighted the significance of a unified and coordinated effort among security agencies in Nigeria to effectively confront the nation’s evolving security challenges.
This statement was made during a welcoming meeting with Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Rilwan Disu, who visited the Army Headquarters in Abuja for the first time.
The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Apollonia Anele, reported that the IGP emphasized the necessity of enhancing collaboration and maintaining inter-agency synergy between the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force.
He praised the established partnership between the two organizations, asserting that such cooperation is vital for fulfilling national security objectives.
The IGP also acknowledged the Army's contributions to capacity building, particularly regarding the training of Police Mobile Force personnel, which he noted has significantly improved operational effectiveness in various settings.
Additionally, he reassured the Army of ongoing intelligence sharing and cooperative operations to bolster joint security arrangements.
In response, Lieutenant General Shaibu congratulated the IGP on his recent appointment as the 23rd Inspector General of Police and confirmed the Army's commitment to enhancing inter-agency cooperation.
He reminisced about their collaborative experiences during the United Nations Mission in Darfur, describing it as a strong foundation for joint operations in complex security scenarios.
The COAS also recognized the support provided by the Nigeria Police Force to military operations in Kogi, Kwara, and Niger States, where ongoing initiatives against banditry and kidnapping have shown significant advancements.
He stressed that lasting peace and security can only be achieved through a well-coordinated inter-agency framework.
