A community chief, identified as Mutairu Oladosu, who held the title Otun Balogun Oluode Okelade, has tragically lost his life at the age of 47. He was reportedly murdered by suspected herders while attending to his tomato farm in Asa village, located in the Okelade area of Ido Local Government Area, Oyo State.
An eyewitness account suggests that a large group of herders invaded the farm and carried out an unprovoked assault on Chief Oladosu. He was reportedly overpowered by the attackers, who were armed.
The Okelade Okin of Okelade, Oba Wahab Olabamiji, confirmed the incident, stating that three herders were involved in the attack. He also disclosed that one of the individuals believed to be responsible has been apprehended and handed over to the police for further investigation.
Oba Olabamiji explained that the community leaders visited the Olubadan to inform him about the escalating security concerns in the Ido Local Government Area. He noted that the herders are not only damaging farms but also posing a significant threat to residents, making them feel unsafe.
"The people in the area can no longer sleep with their two eyes closed again because of the fear of the herders," Oba Olabamiji stated.
He further recounted that Oladosu was hacked to death last Friday while working on his farm. The monarch expressed gratitude for the intervention of Oba Ladoja, who received information about the incident from community leaders.
Oba Ladoja confirmed that he was informed about the murder of Mutairu Oladosu by suspected herders. He mentioned that he had summoned the state Commissioner of Police regarding the incident. The monarch reported that the CP assured him that one suspect was in custody, and efforts were underway to apprehend the others.
"The CP gave assurance that the matter would be duly investigated, while justice will be served on whoever is found guilty of the killing,” Oba Ladoja stated.
