Troops operating under the banner of Operation WUTAN DAJI have achieved significant operational gains in Bauchi State, clearing multiple bandit camps, securing the release of kidnapped persons, and confiscating weapons. This information was released by the army in a statement made public on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
The military forces involved in this offensive included elements from the 33 Artillery Brigade Garrison, supported by the Brigade Headquarters and a specialized team from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA). The operation specifically focused on the area encompassing Kumbodoro forest and Kumbodoro village.
Brig.-Gen. S.S. Shehu, the Commander of the 33 Artillery Brigade, spearheaded the operation, which is part of the broader ongoing efforts to eradicate criminal elements from the region.
During the course of the operation, several bandit strongholds, notably the Azuge camps, were successfully cleared. The offensive also resulted in the neutralization of a number of the armed criminals.
Recovered items from the cleared camps included vital equipment such as an FN rifle magazine, an AK-47 magazine, communication devices, a jackknife, arrows, and radio chargers, alongside multiple sets of security agency uniforms.
"The 33 Artillery Brigade, operating under Operation WUTAN DAJI, has achieved a notable success through a coordinated clearance operation in Kumbodoro Forest and Kumbodoro Village in Bauchi State," the official statement detailed.
"This aggressive operation has dealt a substantial blow to the bandit networks active in the region.
"The troops effectively cleared numerous bandit hideouts, including the well- known Azuge camps situated within the Kumbodoro Forest area.
"With support from the Air Component, the forces neutralized several bandits and destroyed key operational bases, thereby diminishing the criminals' capacity to endanger the lives and properties of the populace. The operation facilitated the rescue of eight individuals who had been kidnapped.
"A comprehensive search of the bandits' camps led to the recovery of a cache of weapons and other supplies. This included four skeletal rifles, four dane guns, one FN rifle magazine, and one AK-47 magazine, alongside communication gadgets and other operational materials.
"Additional recovered items comprised two pairs of boots, three helmets, one power bank, a StarTimes decoder, QJC meta links, one jackknife, six mobile phones, arrows, radio chargers, OPAY ATM cards, photographs, an identity card, several sets of uniforms belonging to security agencies, and leg chains.
"In a related development, troops stationed in Duguri, acting on reliable intelligence, successfully recovered 36 cows in Mushen Kura Village, working in collaboration with local vigilante groups.
"These livestock are presumed to have been abandoned by bandits who fled due to the intense military pressure.
"Ongoing efforts are being made to identify the owners of the recovered animals and facilitate their return.
"The Nigerian Army remains fully committed to its mandate of restoring peace and stability across all operational zones, employing intelligence-led tactics, joint force cooperation, and strategic alliances to ensure that bandits and terrorists have no safe havens."
