On Monday, March 23, a Long Island court heard disturbing allegations against Carlos Aguilar Reynoso, a 27-year-old illegal migrant accused of assaulting a 5-year-old girl while babysitting her on February 1, 2026, as her mother worked.

Prosecutors revealed that rather than providing proper care, Reynoso allegedly committed a violent sexual assault, resulting in the child suffering from internal injuries and bleeding.

"Upon the mother's return from work, her daughter informed her that 'her private parts hurt,'" stated Assistant District Attorney Sean Murphy, as he depicted the harrowing details of the case.

The mother took her daughter to the bathroom for a change, only to discover that the child's underwear was soaked with blood.

Following this shocking revelation, the young girl disclosed the incident to her mother, prompting immediate action that led to her being taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, where doctors diagnosed her with internal injuries including a tear in her genital area.

She was subsequently transferred to Cohen Children's Medical Center in New Hyde Park for emergency surgery, as prosecutors noted.

Reynoso was arrested just a day later after he put up a struggle against law enforcement. Prosecutors indicated that he was close to being released due to the state's lenient bail laws and sanctuary policies.

Initially charged with endangering the welfare of a child, which does not allow for bail under New York law, Reynoso could have been released under the sanctuary policies preventing ICE from taking custody. However, investigators issued him a desk appearance ticket, ensuring he would be processed before a federal agency apprehended him.

In court, Reynoso utilized an interpreter, displaying little movement throughout the proceedings and only responding with a subdued, "yeah," when asked if he understood the situation.

He faces numerous serious charges, including first-degree rape and predatory sexual assault against a minor, carrying a potential sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

Held without bail, Reynoso is scheduled to return to court on April 27, and the horrifying nature of the allegations has garnered significant public attention.
