The battery charge against two-time Olympic medalist Fred Kerley has been withdrawn, according to the announcement made by his legal representative, who stated that the prosecutors made the right decision.
Kerley, aged 30, shared this news on Instagram after attending a court session at Florida’s 17th Judicial Circuit with his attorney, Richard L. Cooper.
In his Instagram post, Kerley reflected on the experience, stating, "Pressure built me, it didn’t break me. Case dismissed. Victory secured. You can’t stop destiny. It’s up from here."
His attorney indicated that the charge, which arose from an arrest in May 2025, was dismissed after Kerley consistently maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings. "He had a target on his back," Cooper remarked. "We’re thankful that the prosecutors made the correct choice and acted appropriately."
Previously, authorities had accused Kerley of assaulting his former girlfriend, Olympic hurdler Alaysha Johnson, during an argument at a training session for an upcoming track and field competition.
Johnson reported to the police that the altercation escalated when they met, alleging that Kerley struck her in the face, resulting in a bleeding nose. According to police records at that time, officers observed that her injuries were in line with her claims.
The reasons behind the charge's dismissal remain undisclosed; Kerley was not found guilty of any crime.
