Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has voiced significant concerns over the ongoing removal of railway sleepers along the rail lines in the Alkaleri and Tafawa Balewa Local Government Areas of the state.

Governor Mohammed noted the situation firsthand while en route to Alkaleri for a condolence visit on Saturday, observing contractors reportedly engaged in the dismantling of the railway infrastructure.

In response, the governor has instructed his Chief of Staff to formally communicate with the Federal Ministry of Transport. The communication aims to secure clarification on the matter and to convey the state's unease regarding the dismantling of national assets within its borders without prior consultation.

Although security personnel present claimed to be acting under federal directives, Governor Mohammed indicated that such assurances were insufficient justification for the removal of essential infrastructure that supports transportation and the movement of agricultural products.

He cautioned that the dismantling of the rail line could be interpreted as a sign of neglect towards crucial regions, particularly given the infrastructure's vital role in alleviating transportation challenges and facilitating the flow of goods.

The governor underscored the necessity for transparent communication and collaborative efforts between federal and state authorities. He stressed that any decisions concerning critical infrastructure must take into account the potential economic impact on local communities and the livelihoods of the residents.
