The Bauchi State Economic Council has sanctioned a program to provide monthly allowances for Imams and Pastors within the state.
Governor Bala Mohammed led the council's meeting on Friday, January 30, which included notable attendees from both the finance and revenue departments.
Following the meeting, Barri Mohammed Sani Umar, the Head of Civil Service, informed the press that the approval benefits Imams of Juma'at mosques and clerics of various Christian denominations, emphasizing that the payments will be conducted impartially.
"The council has given the nod for monthly stipends to be paid to Imams of Juma'at mosques and Pastors across diverse Christian denominations within the state," Umar stated. "These payments will take place without any bias."
He elaborated that the government is currently assessing the financial feasibility of this decision to ensure its smooth and sustainable application.
Umar also mentioned that the council authorized the initiation of salary payments to recently appointed Emirs and District Heads, indicating that appropriate cash flow strategies have been established to facilitate this initiative.
In addition, the Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor, Alhaji Yahuza Adamu Haruna, revealed that the council evaluated the state's salary management system and identified over 3,000 fictitious employees listed on the payroll.
He noted that a payroll examination carried out with the assistance of Onyx Investment Advisory Limited has resulted in savings exceeding ₦4.16 billion for the state.
Haruna further indicated that the state government assumed full responsibility for salary disbursements starting in August 2024, and since then, grievances related to salary matters have ceased.
