A pastor once confided in me that the “Lord” had instructed him to divorce his wife for his ministry to progress. He cited no infidelity or any other scriptural reason for such a drastic step. His conviction stemmed solely from what he believed were direct revelations from his “lord.” I must clarify that this was not the same Lord, the true and living God of our Saviour Jesus Christ, whose sacred Word is our ultimate guide and authority.
As I write, the true Lord is being subjected to blackmail by individuals who present themselves as leaders within the church. These false figures operate openly, misleading many. The spiritual landscape is populated by numerous purported “lords,” and it is crucial to discern which one your church leadership is submitting to.
These counterfeit spiritual guides have infiltrated the Christian community, finding particularly fertile ground within the Pentecostal movement. While it is a privilege for believers, as children of the true Lord, to hear God’s voice and be guided by the Spirit, this guidance is always in alignment with Scripture. The Bible states, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” (Romans 8:14).
The Holy Spirit, as the Spirit of God, has historically led believers and apostles to specific divine assignments, as seen when the apostles were guided to set apart Paul and Barnabas (Acts 13:2). The Spirit also restrains believers from certain actions when necessary, as when Paul and Silas were prevented from preaching in some regions (Acts 16:6). Furthermore, the Holy Spirit acts as a revealer of divine mysteries (1 Corinthians 2:10) and guides believers in prayer and decision-making, always in harmony with God’s Word.
Scripture is clear: “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God” (2 Timothy 3:16). The 66 books of the Bible are divinely inspired, reflecting the unified will of the Godhead – the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. There is no contradiction or discord among them. The Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and God the Father stand united in affirming every word of Scripture.
However, a disturbing trend of false spiritual “leadings” has emerged, especially in Pentecostal circles, demanding immediate attention and correction guided by the Holy Spirit. The practice of using the Lord's name to justify wickedness, exploit the poor, engage in reckless divorce, pursue materialism, make immoral choices, or advance personal ambitions is deplorable. Any “lord” whose directives contradict the foundational values of the written Word is not the true Lord Jesus Christ, for the genuine Lord will never violate His own Word.
This counterfeit lord fosters cruelty, jealousy, unforgiveness, vindictiveness, and bitterness. It fuels greed and covetousness among religious leaders, diverting preaching away from repentance towards sensationalism. It promotes a diluted social gospel that accommodates various religions instead of fostering godliness. This false lord encourages pastors to tolerate sin under the guise of grace and to blend Christianity with other belief systems in the name of tolerance. It promotes wealth acquisition as life's ultimate goal and authorises curses and spiritual intimidation against those who question religious authority.
Many lords operate today: the lord of mammon, the lord of ego, the lord of self, the lord of ambition, and the lord of competition. The Apostle Paul cautioned the Corinthians against embracing “another Jesus,” a different spirit, or a different gospel (2 Corinthians 11:4).
The blackmail of the Lord Jesus must cease. He continues to intercede for His followers, but the church must respond by repenting, renouncing false leaders, and returning to His Word. The Lord calls His people back to the truths and values He has exalted above His own name.
“For You have magnified Your word above all Your name” (Psalm 138:2).
While miracles are associated with the true Lord, His Word is His primary identifier. Tragically, many believers and ministers have been deceived by this counterfeit lord, replacing Christ's virtues and character with its own. This spiritual blackmail has reached alarming proportions, yet it continues to draw large crowds.
I perceive the true Lord’s sorrow and hear Him lamenting, “I did not commission this man,” or “He is lying against Me.” He disavows directives for divorce, misuse of His grace for sin, or the merging of His name with other religions. He questions, “When did I commission him to focus on wealth?” or “When did I authorise curses and spiritual intimidation?” He declares, “I do not know these people.”
The blackmail of the Lord Jesus must end. While He pleads for mercy for His bride, the church must actively repent, abandon false leaders, and return to His unwavering Word. The Lord calls His people to uphold the values and truth that He has elevated above His own name.
It may seem that these perpetrators are succeeding, but God does not need to win every earthly battle to achieve eternal victory. He has all of eternity to reveal truth and righteousness. What appears successful now will eventually be exposed. Therefore, cease the blackmail of the true Lord’s name through the actions of false leaders. Stop it! God bless you.
