Udeze Chinenye Gloria, a Nigerian woman who has overcome breast cancer, has spoken out after an individual told her that discussing her illness was alienating men. Gloria, who was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer in 2022 at the age of 25, underwent a single mastectomy and completed six rounds of chemotherapy.
Responding to the criticism, Gloria asserted that she will continue to share her experiences and champion awareness for others facing cancer. She also revealed that she is in a supportive relationship.
"A man just told me that I am scaring men away because I am always posting pictures of when I am sick and talking about cancer," she stated. "So I should not create awareness because of men wey even leave there spec to go with who is not there spec. So I should be more worried about men wey no send some women they claim to love."
She further emphasized the importance of her partner's acceptance and encouragement. "My dear, let me tell you, I have a man who loved me and he looked me straight in the eyes and told me we are going to fight this together. If my man can't allow me to create awareness for others then he was not meant for me dear."
Gloria concluded by firmly addressing the unsolicited advice: “So please don't you ever drop that senseless opinion on my dm again.”
