Cole Palmer has now surpassed some of Chelsea's most esteemed players, scoring his fourth hat-trick for the club in their recent 3-1 triumph against Wolves, thereby establishing a new benchmark for the team.
Tolu Arokodare managed to score a consolation goal for the team at the bottom of the league in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome Palmer's first-half scoring spree, which secured the victory for Liam Rosenior's squad.
The first-half treble against Wolves marked Palmer's fourth for the club in the Premier League over just three years. This accomplishment places him ahead of club legends like Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink, Didier Drogba, and Frank Lampard, all of whom scored three hat-tricks during their extensive tenures in west London.
Palmer converted two penalties before sealing his hat-trick with a well- executed shot inside the box in the 38th minute, which not only secured the match ball and the victory but also the record for the former Manchester City attacker.
This match proved to be an especially memorable occasion for Palmer, as his hat-trick was recorded as Chelsea's third-fastest in Premier League history, achieved in 38 minutes. He already holds the records for the fastest (29 minutes against Everton) and second-fastest (31 minutes against Brighton) hat- tricks for the club.
Furthermore, Palmer has made history by becoming the first player in the Premier League to achieve three first-half hat-tricks.
Additionally, Palmer has moved past John Terry (41) to occupy second place for goals scored by English players for Chelsea in the Premier League, with 44 goals. He now trails Frank Lampard, who amassed an impressive 147 goals.
Palmer joined Chelsea from Manchester City in 2023 and has since scored 44 goals in 84 appearances, establishing himself as a key player at Stamford Bridge.
Recent reports have suggested Palmer might be considering a return to Manchester due to homesickness in London. However, manager Liam Rosenior has downplayed these claims.
Speaking after the victory against Wolves, Rosenior praised his star forward, describing the hat-trick hero as "unstoppable" following his record-breaking performance.
"When he's fully firing and feeling good, he's a magnificent footballer," Rosenior stated. "When you're at this club with these demands and scrutiny, which I'm starting to learn myself, you have to block out the noise and remember what a good player you are.
"We know what a world-class player he is. He's played a lot of football over the last year with not much rest. When he's at his best, he's unstoppable. I'm delighted to be working with him."
He added, "He loves being here. Hopefully now he can really enjoy his football between now and the end of the season."
