There is considerable confusion regarding the death of a vice principal from a school in Katsina State, as different accounts emerge from local residents and security personnel.
Aminu Abubakar Gora, who held the position of Vice Principal (Academic) at Government Pilot Secondary School in Dayi, located in the Malumfashi Local Government Area, was discovered deceased on Sunday morning. His death followed his failure to return home after a trip the preceding night.
The school's principal, Rabiu Wakas, confirmed the tragic and shocking incident to PREMIUM TIMES.
According to Nafiu Muazu, a youth leader from the community, Mr. Gora departed his home in the evening, reportedly en route to Malumfashi, but never arrived back. This disappearance caused significant concern among his family and the wider community.
His body was later found the following morning on the Gobirawa road, near the area known as ‘Yan Mama.
Mr. Muazu stated that initial reports circulating within the community suggested the victim had been attacked by suspected motorcycle thieves, noting that both his motorcycle and mobile phone were missing when his body was recovered. However, he stressed that this account is still unverified.
A resident of the area, who preferred to remain anonymous, offered a different account, alleging that Mr. Gora might have been followed from Malumfashi before the attack occurred. This source speculated that the perpetrators followed him in a vehicle and struck him with a heavy object, possibly a car jack, before absconding with his belongings. The nature of the assault, according to this individual, suggested a potentially deliberate act.
A security source with knowledge of the case informed PREMIUM TIMES that initial examination of the body revealed no signs of gunshot wounds. The source also noted indications that suggested strangulation, with blood observed around the victim's mouth, but emphasized that a confirmed cause of death would await a medical examination.
Attempts to solicit an official statement from the Katsina State Police Command were unsuccessful.
As of the time of this report, authorities had not officially confirmed the precise circumstances of the killing, and no arrests had been made. Investigations into the matter are reportedly ongoing.
The incident has left colleagues, students, and residents of Gora and neighboring communities in a state of shock.
Mr. Gora was known in the local area for operating a small mobile money (POS) business, a venture that frequently required him to travel along the Malumfashi–Gora route.
This event occurs amidst ongoing concerns about crime and security challenges in various parts of Katsina State, where armed banditry, kidnappings, and robberies have persisted despite various security operations.
