A family conflict at a wedding event in Kayari village, which is part of the Fune Local Government Area in Yobe State, resulted in one death and multiple injuries, according to police reports.

The altercation transpired around 6:30 p.m. on January 13, 2026, at the home of Wakili Sumaye, where tensions flared between members of the Manu and Ibrahim families.

During the brawl, various participants sustained serious injuries from cutlass attacks.

Four individuals—Abdullahi Manu, 30; Adamu Manu, 27; Ilyasu Manu, 30; and Mohammadu Ibrahim, 20—who all reside at the same location, were taken to the Damagum Divisional Police Headquarters before being transferred to the General Hospital in Damagum.

Upon arrival at the medical facility, medical personnel confirmed the death of Abdullahi Manu, while the others received medical care for their wounds.

The Yobe State Police Command disclosed that they have initiated an investigation into the incident, with efforts underway to apprehend the suspects who have fled.

Authorities have called upon community members to amicably settle disputes and refrain from using weapons in order to avoid further loss of life.
