Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has dismissed several political appointees and dethroned traditional rulers from the Amasiri community in the Afikpo Local Government Area due to their alleged role in a violent land dispute.

Recent reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) indicate that this conflict, occurring between the Amasiri community and the adjacent Okporojo village within the Edda Local Government Area, led to the loss of four lives and considerable property damage.

During a visit to the Okporojo community on Saturday, Mr. Nwifuru criticized the Amasiri community for failing to demonstrate a genuine commitment to fostering lasting peace. He stated that the government was compelled to take serious action in light of the situation.

"Everybody appointed by the government from Amasiri, including members of the local government development center management committee and commissioners, has been relieved of their duties," he announced.

Furthermore, he revealed that traditional leaders from Amasiri would have their recognition certificates revoked, and all village town union leaderships would be dissolved.

The governor also urged the people of Amasiri to alter any perceptions that he was against them, asserting, "I do not harbor ill will towards anyone. I only speak the truth, and we genuinely care for the Amasiri people."

He called for a shift in community attitudes, expressing confidence that some members of Amasiri still align with positive values and divine principles.

Addressing the Okporojo residents, the governor reassured them of government support in pursuing justice and holding accountable those responsible for the violent acts.

"I urge the people of Okporojo to refrain from retaliatory actions, as they will soon witness the government's decisive measures regarding this matter. I appreciate the rapid response of security forces and encourage them to enhance security in the region," he remarked.

Chima Ekuma-Nkama, Chairman of Edda Local Government Council, expressed gratitude to the governor for his visit, noting that it has rekindled the faith of the people in the government.

He commented on the concerning violence, stating, "It is troubling to see human heads severed from their bodies, and we are left to wonder what the perpetrators intend to do with them."

Victim Joy Okoro revealed that she lost a family member and suffered property loss during the attack, stating, "All we seek is justice, which is essential for us to regain faith in life."

Reports indicate that Mr. Nwifuru's visit was accompanied by security agency leaders and high-ranking officials from the affected local government areas.
