A father and his son have reportedly been murdered in Imande Avur, a part of the Abande community in the Mbaikyor District of Kwande Local Government Area in Benue State.
Sources from the area indicated that the incident took place on Wednesday when the victims, Elder Abur Alam and his son, Ikyaa Bashi, were engaged in agricultural work to support their family.
"The event transpired in the afternoon on Wednesday," a local resident stated.
Akerigba Lawrence, a former Supervisory Councillor in Kwande LGA, condemned the killings, expressing sadness over the escalating violence that seems to have become routine in the region.
Lawrence noted that during the assault, Elder Abur Alam and his son, who were recognized for their peaceful farming background, were killed while striving to sustain their livelihoods. This tragedy has resulted in the displacement of numerous residents, with widespread fear pervading the community.
“These violent occurrences are now frequent, unchecked, and devastating. Accusations of complicity, along with the lack of prompt responses, have only exacerbated the situation, depriving affected families of adequate support.
“For the last fortnight, our community has faced daily assaults and fatalities. It feels like the government has abandoned us. This is a critical moment; the people of Turan cannot tolerate this ongoing bloodshed any longer. Immediate intervention is essential to halt these attacks, safeguard lives, and deliver justice,” Lawrence asserted.
DSP Udeme Edet, the Police Public Relations Officer, mentioned that she had yet to receive any details regarding the incident.
