Ayodele Fayose, who previously served as the governor of Ekiti State, has issued a stark warning that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) faces a significant risk of losing the presidential election in 2027 unless Peter Obi is a part of the party's candidacy.
Fayose's comments were made during an evaluation of President Bola Tinubu's administration while addressing attendees at the PDP national convention in Abuja on Sunday. He provided a nuanced critique of Tinubu's tenure.
Expressing his thoughts, Fayose stated, "I appreciate what Asiwaju is doing. You don't have to achieve everything perfectly to be considered effective; however, comparing our past performances with our current situation indicates he is falling short."
Touching on the opposition party's prospects, Fayose emphasized that the ADC's success hinges on Obi's involvement in the elections.
He remarked, "I have told you before that without Obi on the ADC ticket, it spells doom for the party. It now seems likely that Obi will not be a contender, and Atiku Abubakar is poised to secure the nomination instead."
Fayose also voiced his concerns regarding Obi's political trajectory leading up to the election.
He added, "Returning to the Labour Party is not a feasible option for him. Obi is a commendable individual, truly impressive, but the path to the presidency at this moment is fraught with challenges for him."
