Obinna Simon, widely known as MC Tagwaye, the chairmanship aspirant for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), has expressed serious concerns regarding threats to his life and the safety of his supporters allegedly issued by a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
During a press conference held over the weekend, Simon strongly criticized what he termed alarming rhetoric directed at non-natives of the Federal Capital Territory as the elections approach. He characterized this intimidation as a violation of constitutional rights.
He stated, "Earlier today, I was shown a video of an APC member issuing threats to voters, particularly targeting non-indigenes, stating that anyone supporting the SDP or the ADC would be compelled to leave the area."
Simon intends to disseminate the video across social media platforms and notify relevant security bodies. He warned, "Any harm that befalls me, my family, or my supporters will hold that individual accountable. The APC candidate must also be answerable for these threats," underscoring that elections should be a lawful process in which every individual possesses the right to partake.
In response to these allegations, Kingsley Madaki, a Senior Special Assistant to the APC candidate, rejected Simon's claims. He asserted that no such threats were made during their campaign efforts or at any other time, and encouraged all candidates to maintain a focus on issue-based campaigning rather than resorting to incendiary statements.
