Courtney Williams, an ex-special operations soldier with the US Army's elite Delta Force, has been taken into custody on suspicion of sharing classified defence materials with a journalist. Williams, aged 40, who was part of the special unit from 2010 to 2015, had previously signed an agreement to keep sensitive information confidential during and after her service.

Kash Patel confirmed the arrest, issuing a stern warning about ongoing leak investigations. Patel stated, "Let this serve as a message to any would-be leakers: we’re working these cases, and we’re making arrests. This FBI will not tolerate those who seek to betray our country and put Americans in harm’s way."

Prosecutors contend that Williams provided information to journalist Seth Harp, who was reportedly researching a book focused on Fort Bragg, the headquarters of Delta Force. Evidence, including phone records, suggests Williams and Harp had frequent contact between 2022 and 2026.

According to court documents, Williams had access to highly sensitive information during her tenure, including details pertaining to covert operations. Williams has denied any wrongdoing, and court filings indicate she communicated concerns that the information she shared was intended for general understanding and expressed worries about the potential public disclosure of classified data.

Harp, however, has come to her defence, characterizing Williams as a whistleblower who aimed to expose issues such as alleged misconduct within the unit. He has also criticized the ongoing investigation, labelling it as politically motivated. The legal proceedings are expected to continue as investigations into the alleged leak persist.
