Francis Igwe, who is the father of former Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Dr. Kelechi Igwe, has been taken hostage by armed men.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning, March 1, 2026, as Igwe was on his way to church within his community located in Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

According to local sources, the traditional ruler was driving when assailants on a motorcycle blocked his path.

The gunmen reportedly forced him out of his vehicle and then escaped with him on their motorcycle, taking him to an undisclosed location.

Sunday Nwankwo, the Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, has acknowledged the abduction and confirmed that local authorities are collaborating with security forces to collect critical information aimed at facilitating his safe return.
