Mike Eneramo, a former striker for the Nigerian national team, has died following a collapse during a training session in Kaduna on Friday.
The incident occurred in the early hours of the day while Eneramo was participating in routine fitness drills at a primary school field in the Ungwan Yelwa area of Kaduna State.
Reports indicate that Eneramo experienced a heart attack and tragically passed away before he could be transported to a hospital.
At the time of his death, Eneramo was 40 years old. He had previously played for clubs including Esperance of Tunisia, and retired from professional football in 2018 after stints with various Turkish clubs such as Sivasspor, Beşiktaş, Istanbul Başakşehir, Kardemir Karabükspor, and Manisaspor.
His career also included a second spell with Esperance before he concluded his playing days at Cypriot club Türk Ocağı Limasol SK.
Eneramo enjoyed significant success in Tunisia, securing five Tunisian Ligue 1 titles and topping the league's scoring charts for two seasons. He also emerged as the top scorer in the CAF Champions League during the 2009/10 season and won the Tunisian Cup three times.
Despite an offer to represent Tunisia internationally, Eneramo chose to play for Nigeria, making his debut for the Super Eagles against Tunisia in a 2010 World Cup qualifier, where he scored.
He earned 11 caps for the Super Eagles, scoring a total of three goals during his international career.
