Gervonta Davis, who has held titles in three different weight classes, was taken into custody in Miami on Wednesday. This occurred two weeks after an arrest warrant was issued against him for battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping following an alleged domestic violence incident.
The Miami Gardens police, in collaboration with the United States Marshals fugitive task force, executed a surveillance operation across three counties to locate Davis, successfully apprehending him without any altercations in the Miami Design District.
Jail records indicate that Davis was booked at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 10 p.m. on Wednesday. An arrest warrant was first issued on January 14, stating that Davis had confronted his ex-girlfriend at a strip club on October 27, where he reportedly took her into a back room, assaulted her, and restrained her.
According to the police report, Davis allegedly grabbed the woman by her hair and throat, warning her, "You think I would not find you," before taking her to the club’s parking lot, where he ultimately freed her.
The victim, who identified herself as Courtney Rossel, informed the authorities that she had met Davis in 2022, and they maintained a relationship for five months in 2025 before separating, after which she ceased communication with him.
Rossel subsequently filed a report with Miami Gardens police and pursued a separate civil complaint against Davis. Her attorney, Jeff Chukwuma, stated, "What the police said aligns perfectly with our lawsuit. Whatever investigation they conducted was sufficient for a judge to authorize an arrest warrant," in a statement made to ESPN on January 14. "The state attorney had to make the determination prior, coinciding precisely with our civil complaint."
Earlier this month, Rossel’s attorneys disclosed in court that they had made multiple attempts to serve Davis with the civil complaint but were unsuccessful.
In October, Davis was engaged in training for a scheduled fight against Jake Paul at the Kaseya Center in Miami. Following the filing of the lawsuit, he was removed from the fight card and replaced by Anthony Joshua. His last match occurred in March, which resulted in a draw against Lamont Roach Jr.
Davis has faced various legal challenges over the years, including previous domestic violence charges, many of which have since been dismissed. In 2023, he received a three-year probationary sentence along with a 90-day house arrest due to involvement in a hit-and-run incident in Baltimore.
