Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has sanctioned a donation of N100 million to aid traders affected by a recent fire disaster at Singer Market in Kano, aimed at alleviating their losses.

The governor made this announcement while visiting the market to express his sympathy on Thursday.

This information was relayed in a statement from the Director General of Media and Publicity at the Kano Government House, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

Governor Yusuf expressed his deep concern over the significant losses that the traders have incurred and reaffirmed the state government's commitment to supporting their welfare and facilitating a quick recovery.

"I am deeply saddened by what happened here. The government will not abandon you in this difficult moment," the governor remarked.

During the visit, he was welcomed by the Chairman of Singer Market, Barrister Junaidu Muhammad Zakari, along with an elder of the market, Alhaji Sabi’u Bako, and the plaza owner, Alhaji Munzali Mazaf.

In addition to the relief fund, Governor Yusuf ordered the prompt expansion and rehabilitation of the internal roads within the market to improve accessibility and encourage commercial activities.

He also approved a budget of N3 billion for the upgrading of roads including Bello Road, Ado Bayero Road, Kandoki, Yolawa, and Kwangiri roads, aimed at alleviating flooding and reducing traffic congestion around key market areas in Kano.

The governor pledged to install solar power systems in Singer Market, emphasizing his administration’s goal to modernize markets in the state in line with its urban renewal and economic development initiatives.

He instructed that contractors handling these road projects must mobilize and commence work within 10 days.

Market leaders and senior members expressed their gratitude to the governor for his visit and timely assistance, lauding his compassionate response and the government's ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and support traders in the main commercial hubs of Kano.
