Residents of Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters in Kano city are engulfed in grief following a heinous attack that claimed the lives of Haruna Bashir's wife and their six children.
The assault has been described by locals as one of the most horrific events to occur in the neighborhood.
The victims included 35-year-old Fatima Abubakar and her children: Maimuna, 17; Aisha, 16; Bashir, 13; Abubakar, 10; Faruk, 7; and 18-month-old Abdussalam. They were reportedly attacked with lethal weapons when armed individuals broke into their home on Friday at Dorayi Gidan Kwari.
Kabiru Ibrahim, a local resident, informed Daily Trust that the community has been left in devastation, with many struggling to comprehend the brutal slaying of an entire family.
"We are still in shock. There are no clear reasons for the attack that resulted in the complete destruction of a household and no one knows who was behind it," he stated.
Ibrahim reported that the bodies were taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital where medical personnel confirmed their deaths.
The incident has been verified by CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the spokesperson for Kano State Police, who noted that the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has initiated an investigation into the matter.
Kiyawa also mentioned that the Criminal Investigation Department is actively engaged in an in-depth inquiry aimed at identifying the assailants.
"The command extends its sympathies to the victims' families and the citizens of Dorayi Chiranchi. We assure everyone that the investigation is underway and justice will be pursued," Kiyawa added.
