Igoche Mark, a prominent advocate for basketball and the initiator of the Mark D’Ball Basketball Championship, has shared his vision for the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) presidency. He emphasized that his primary objective is to reestablish unity within the sport's leadership.

During an interaction with the media in Abuja over the weekend, Mark highlighted that rifts among key stakeholders have stunted the growth of basketball in Nigeria. He asserted that his first initiative, if elected, will be to unify the basketball community.

"The first thing I will do when elected as president of NBBF is to unite the house. We must come together because a house divided against itself cannot stand," he stated.

Mark pointed out that Nigeria possesses considerable talent and potential within the global basketball arena, but stressed the need to focus that capability on local development efforts.

“Each individual involved in this sport contributes something unique. We are incredibly adaptable; you can find Nigerians excelling in basketball-related endeavors worldwide," he expressed.

He vowed that his administration would aim to leverage this collective talent to enhance basketball across Nigeria.

"We must purposefully focus our efforts on advancing the sport domestically, and that responsibility will rest on my shoulders if I am elected as president of the NBBF," he added.

In addressing doubts regarding his qualifications, Mark responded to critics who believe he lacks the necessary experience. He dismissed such claims by explaining that running a sports federation is a collaborative effort by a board rather than dictated by a single individual.

“Opportunities must first be presented before one can gain experience. Managing a federation like the NBBF is a collective responsibility, not a solo endeavor," he remarked.

Furthermore, he questioned the validity of the critiques aimed at him, noting that no previous NBBF presidents are currently competing for the position.

“I think that claim is illogical, as I don't believe any former NBBF president is in the race," he concluded.

Mark is positioning himself as a key player in the upcoming leadership elections in Nigerian basketball, as stakeholders continue to seek stability and growth in the sport.
