Igor Thiago, a forward for Brentford, has been awarded the Premier League Player of the Month title for January.
In January, the 24-year-old player scored five times during two games, notching a hat-trick in a 4-2 victory over Everton and securing two goals in a 3-0 triumph against Sunderland at Gtech Community Stadium.
Thiago accomplished a significant milestone with his first goal against Sunderland, tying the record for the most goals scored by a Brazilian in a Premier League season at 15. This record is shared with Matheus Cunha (Wolverhampton Wanderers, 2024/25), Gabriel Martinelli (Arsenal, 2022/23), and Roberto Firmino (Liverpool, 2017/18).
With his second goal against Sunderland, Thiago surpassed that record, bringing his total to 16, thus establishing himself as the sole record holder for Brazilian players in the Premier League.
He emerged victorious over contenders including Yasin Ayari from Brighton and Hove Albion, Patrick Dorgu from Manchester United, Chelsea's Enzo Fernández, Junior Kroupi from Bournemouth, West Ham's Crysencio Summerville, Harry Wilson from Fulham, and Florian Wirtz from Liverpool.
Upon receiving the accolade, Thiago expressed, "It’s an amazing feeling. I’ve inquired how many Brentford players have won this award, and I was told none had received this trophy before me."
He added, "I’m really pleased to have won it twice now and look forward to possibly securing more! I also want to express my gratitude to all the staff and players for their support and assistance on the pitch."
