Iran has executed a man suspected of spying for Israel, representing the first such execution since tensions escalated between the Iranian regime and the US- Israel alliance.
The executed individual, Kourosh Keyvani, was apprehended during the brief conflict that took place last June, during which he allegedly transmitted images and sensitive information regarding key locations to Mossad operatives, as reported by Mizan Online.
Tehran confirmed, "The death sentence of a spy for the Zionist regime, who had been supplying images and details about the country's sensitive locations to Mossad agents, was carried out this morning."
Keyvani reportedly received intelligence training in Tel Aviv and in six unnamed European nations. There has been no official comment from Israel on the matter, according to the Times of Israel.
Iran has a history of conducting trials deemed unfair, often leading to executions of individuals suspected of espionage or dissent.
In an effort to intensify penalties, Iranian authorities enacted a law last year designating espionage for Israel or the United States as a capital offense.
The law stipulates, "Any deliberate assistance to the enemy is deemed corruption on Earth," the Islamic Republic News Agency reported.
This execution coincides with the Iranian government launching retaliatory strikes in response to the recent death of a prominent security figure, Ali Larijani.
Tasnim News Agency broadcast footage of missiles being launched, purportedly aimed at Tel Aviv.
Among the missiles claimed to have been fired by Tehran is a Khorramshahr-4, which boasts a range of 1,242 miles and the capacity to carry nearly a 4,000-pound warhead.
Amir Hatami, the commander of the Iranian armed forces, warned that retaliation for Larijani's assassination would be "decisive and regrettable."
Iranian authorities stated that the missile strikes on Israel were executed as retribution for the death of Larijani and his associates, asserting that he was martyred during an airstrike that occurred on Tuesday.
Senior military figure Ali Abdollahi Aliabadi, currently under US sanctions, issued a warning to President Trump, stating he should "prepare for our surprises."
Aliabadi asserted that the Iranian response would be "more devastating than the actions or imaginations of our adversaries," according to reports from the Tasnim News Agency.
