Israeli military personnel have been reported to have shot and killed a Palestinian couple along with their two young children during an incident in the occupied West Bank, according to Palestinian officials.

The family, known as Ali and Waad Bani Odeh, was traveling in a vehicle in the town of Tammum, located in northern West Bank, when Israeli forces began firing at them.

The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed that the deceased included a five- year-old boy named Mohammed and his seven-year-old brother Othman. Medical sources stated that the four family members arrived at a nearby hospital with severe gunshot wounds to their heads and faces.

Two additional children, aged eight and eleven, were present in the vehicle at the time but survived with minor shrapnel injuries.

According to a statement made by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), a joint operation involving both the army and the Israel Border Police was taking place in the area when the shooting incident happened.

Israeli officials alleged that the vehicle the family was in sped toward security personnel, which they claimed prompted the soldiers to fire after feeling threatened.

The IDF's report indicated, “Four Palestinians in the vehicle were killed as a result,” and they noted that the circumstances surrounding the shooting are currently being investigated.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported that their emergency response teams initially faced obstruction from Israeli forces when attempting to aid the injured, with orders to vacate the area.

The United Nations has observed extensive movement restrictions in much of the occupied West Bank following escalated violence tied to conflicts involving the United States, Israel, and Iran earlier this year.

The violence has intensified since the Hamas assaults on October 7, which initiated the ongoing war in Gaza.

As per reports from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, from October 2023 to March 2026, at least 1,064 Palestinians, including 231 children, have lost their lives in the West Bank due to the ongoing conflict.
