Jordan Ibe, a former winger for Liverpool and the England Under-21s, was detained after arriving at Luton Airport last month.
Currently with Lokomotiv Sofia in Bulgaria, Ibe faces charges for an alleged assault that occurred in mid-December 2025 and has been questioned by the authorities.
The 30-year-old footballer has since been granted bail and is expected to appear before Croydon magistrates on March 6, as reported by The Sun.
Ibe had returned from Bulgaria specifically to attend court regarding a separate matter.
According to a police spokesperson, "Jordan Ibe has been charged with actual bodily harm. This charge relates to an assault that allegedly happened on Sunday, December 14, 2025. He was arrested at Luton Airport on Friday, January 30, and taken into custody."
In November of the previous year, Ibe signed with Lokomotiv Sofia after leaving eighth-tier club Sittingbourne Town, where he had a brief 17-day stint. He has yet to compete in an official match with his new team.
Previously amid his career, he was transferred from Liverpool to Bournemouth for a club-record fee of £15 million in 2016.
His shift to Bulgaria marks the 11th club in his professional journey. Ibe’s determination to continue in soccer comes after he publicly acknowledged battling depression for four years, a struggle he revealed in 2021.
A statement from Lokomotiv Sofia expressed optimism for Ibe’s career revival, stating, "After a few challenging seasons, Jordan is ready to reinvigorate his career, and we believe this will happen at Lokomotiv."
The club management conveyed wishes for Ibe's health, happiness, and success while representing their colors.
