Kanye West Accused of Unprovoked Punching in Los Angeles Restaurant Lawsuit

Rapper Kanye West, also known as Ye, has been named as a defendant in a new legal action stemming from an alleged physical altercation at a Los Angeles dining establishment. The lawsuit was filed by an individual identified as John Doe, who cited safety concerns and the potential for reputational damage as reasons for maintaining anonymity.

The plaintiff asserts that he was seated with his brother in the outdoor area of a private venue when West purportedly struck him without any warning. According to the legal document, filed on Monday, the impact of the blow caused the plaintiff to fall to the ground, lose consciousness, and strike his head.

The complaint further states that the defendant continued to assault the plaintiff while he was unconscious, with the apparent intention of inflicting harm. The lawsuit describes the alleged attack as "cowardly," "shocking, physically harmful, and offensive."

Attorneys for the plaintiff argue that Ye acted with malice by attacking his client while he was incapacitated and then retreating to his security detail, leaving him injured on the floor. The man claims he required medical attention following the incident.

While the lawsuit alludes to a previous interaction involving a woman associated with West's entourage, specific details were not provided. The filing emphasizes that the plaintiff and his brother did not engage in any behaviour that would have provoked such an assault, refuting any possibility of mistaken identity.

"Plaintiff did nothing at all to provoke it," the legal document states. "Plaintiff's brother did not engage in any offensive or inappropriate conduct toward any woman in defendant’s party earlier that evening, or at any time. This is not a case of mistaken identity in which defendant attacked the wrong brother. Neither brother engaged in any wrongful conduct at any time."

Subsequently, the lawsuit claims, West allegedly spread false accusations about the plaintiff's conduct with the woman, allegedly exaggerating these claims on a popular podcast. This, the suit contends, led to public criticism and ridicule directed at the plaintiff.

The plaintiff's legal team maintains that evidence, including surveillance footage, demonstrates that he did not act inappropriately towards anyone present. The complaint characterizes the alleged dissemination of these falsehoods, made without regard for the plaintiff's well-being, as extreme and outrageous conduct that transgresses societal norms.

Robert Shapiro, the plaintiff's attorney, informed Rolling Stone that the complaint speaks for itself. He added that his client's decision to file anonymously was an attempt to resolve the matter discreetly.

"We wanted to give everyone the opportunity to see if the matter could be solved or resolved confidentially in mediation," Shapiro stated. "My policy is to try to resolve matters. If we can do them confidentially, I think it’s in everyone’s interest, and we’ll give people that opportunity."
