Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former Governor of Kano State, has openly condemned the recent bombings in Maiduguri, Borno State, which resulted in the deaths of 23 individuals and injuries to over 100 others.
In a statement shared on his verified account on social media platform X, Kwankwaso characterized the incidents as shocking and a significant setback for peace and stability in the North-east region, as well as Nigeria as a whole.
"I am extremely saddened by the devastating suicide bombings in Maiduguri... that have claimed the lives of 23 innocent people and left more than 100 injured," he stated.
The ex-Minister of Defence cautioned that these attacks indicate a concerning resurgence of terrorism in the area, which had experienced years of relative peace.
"These recent attacks... suggest a troubling revival of senseless terrorism that jeopardizes the stability our communities have fought hard to restore. This behavior is unacceptable," he reiterated.
Kwankwaso, who also leads the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), called on President Bola Tinubu and all tiers of government to strengthen their strategies against insurgency.
"Now is not the time for defensiveness or complacency. Our brave armed forces must be adequately equipped to engage in decisive and proactive measures," he asserted.
He emphasized the critical necessity for both federal and state authorities to allocate sufficient resources and support to security forces to achieve a conclusive defeat of terrorist groups.
"The Federal and State governments must do everything in their power to provide all necessary resources so that our military can effectively dismantle these terrorist networks," he demanded.
Kwankwaso also extended his condolences to the victims and their families, expressing sorrow for the residents of Borno State.
"My heart goes out to the bereaved families, the wounded, and the entire people of Borno State during this trying time," he added.
He urged for an immediate and coordinated effort to restore security and prevent any further attacks in the region.
