An Area Court situated in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, has officially dissolved the union between Rashida Bashir and her husband, Bashir Adegboye, citing the latter's persistent womanising as the primary reason.
The presiding judge, Hammed Ajumonbi, noted in his ruling that the husband's own letter submitted to the court indicated his agreement to the divorce proceedings.
Consequently, Ajumonbi pronounced the marriage dissolved. He also mandated that the petitioner, Rashida, observe a mandatory three-month Iddah period as prescribed by Islamic law following the dissolution.
Furthermore, the court awarded custody of the two children born from the marriage to the wife. The husband was ordered to provide a monthly sum of N20,000 for the upkeep and feeding of their children. He was also granted unrestricted access to the children at reasonable times.
During the court proceedings, the petitioner had stated that her husband exhibited a lack of respect for her due to his relationships with other women.
Rashida shared that her husband had two other wives prior to their marriage. She further revealed that the senior wife informed her that at least nine other women had borne children for Bashir.
She expressed distress, stating, "These women call me all the time to abuse and curse me. I am tired of our relationship."
Rashida also voiced concerns about her health, indicating she did not wish to contract any diseases from her husband given his alleged frequency of extramarital encounters.
