The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce, in collaboration with the Anti-Crime Squad, has arrested an individual implicated in an attack on a driver whose car broke down on the Oshodi–Iyana Ipaja Road.
Tokunbo Wahab, the state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, announced the event through his X account on Thursday, January 15. The incident took place around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, when the assailant, along with accomplices, targeted a helpless citizen and demanded money after the vehicle had an issue on the heavily trafficked road.
He detailed in his post, “Yesterday, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce/anti-crime squad detained a suspect for assault and extortion from a motorist whose car broke down along the Oshodi-Iyana Ipaja Road, accompanied by his gang members who are currently at large.”
Wahab further noted that the task force members acted quickly and took one suspect into custody at the scene, while the remaining gang members managed to flee.
He added, “The suspect has been taken into custody and will face charges in due course,” with assurances that efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the other gang members still at large.
