Wilfred Ndidi, who plays as a midfielder for the Super Eagles, has called on the Nigeria Football Federation to maintain Eric Chelle as the team's head coach. He underlined that consistency is vital for the national team's future success, despite their failure to secure a spot in the AFCON final.

In his remarks prior to the third-place match, Ndidi stressed that altering the coaching staff at this juncture would not be beneficial, especially with numerous competitions still on the horizon.

“For the sake of stability, I believe they should retain the coach because he is an excellent manager. All we need for this team is continuity. We shouldn't make changes now just because we didn’t make it to the final. We must stay focused, as there are plenty of competitions ahead,” explained Ndidi.

The midfielder from Besiktas also shared that taking on the captaincy of the national team is a significant privilege, appreciating the teamwork and collective effort contributed by both the coaching staff and fellow players throughout the tournament.

“It's incredible. Being captain is a great honor for me, thanks to the coach, my teammates, and other team leaders,” he remarked.

Looking back at the team's overall performance, Ndidi expressed pride in how the players competed during the tournament.

“When reflecting on the experience as captain, I must say I'm very proud of this team. They have achieved remarkable feats throughout this tournament, and it's been wonderful,” he noted.

He wrapped up his commentary by emphasizing the importance of unity and continued backing for the players, commending their determination and capability. “Let’s concentrate on supporting the team. I take pride in this group of players,” he added.

The Super Eagles, who were defeated by the host nation Morocco in a penalty shootout, are set to meet Egypt in the third-place playoff this Saturday, aiming to conclude their AFCON journey on a positive note.

After the loss to Morocco, Chelle mentioned that he is uncertain about his future as head coach of the Super Eagles but affirmed his commitment to preparing the team for the upcoming third-place match and to evaluating the tournament overall.
