The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has initiated an expansion of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts to include secondary schools throughout the Federal Capital Territory. This move is part of a broader strategy to foster skills development and bolster educational outcomes among students.
During the first anniversary of its 'Customs Cares' CSR platform, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, highlighted its structured approach to delivering tangible results across vital areas. These sectors include education, healthcare, food security, environmental sustainability, social investment, and the creative economy.
Adeniyi further stated that the Service intends to engage 50,000 students nationwide through this program, noting that approximately 15,000 students have already benefited within the program's inaugural year.
At an event held at Government Secondary School, Wuse Zone 3, Oluwatosin Isedowo, a corps member with the Nigerian Customs Broadcasting Network (NCBN), discussed the "Educate the Dreamers Project." This project, conceived by her and backed by the NCS, is a community service initiative focused on delivering quality education and vocational training to underprivileged students and out- of-school youth in the FCT.
Isedowo emphasized the significance of equipping students with essential skills in the contemporary world, stating, "In the 21st Century, we have seen the importance of students having skills, so it’s more or less me reaching out to a community, reaching out to people, reaching out to teenagers and with the support of the Nigeria Customs Service, we are already achieving it."
The principal of the school, Mrs. Josephine Ugwu, affirmed that the initiative aligns with the school's mission to nurture disciplined, knowledgeable, and productive students.
