President Bola Tinubu has stated that Nigeria is now a highly sought-after location for investment, notwithstanding the considerable economic and security challenges facing the country.
He further revealed that the Nigerian economy has experienced a resurgence, attracting substantial investments amounting to billions of dollars, particularly within the energy sector.
These remarks were made on Thursday at the State House during a meeting with representatives from the Civil Society Organisation on Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative (CSCHEI), with Vice President Kashim Shettima also in attendance.
"I have just received the good news that our gas investment has crossed the most difficult river and is moving very effectively," President Tinubu remarked, referring to a significant achievement by the NNPC concerning the OB3 Gas Pipeline's River Niger crossing.
The pipeline project, which utilized advanced horizontal directional drilling (HDD) technology to lay 2 kilometers beneath the riverbed, is set to enhance Nigeria's energy security, power generation capabilities, and support industrial expansion by enabling a transport capacity of 2 billion standard cubic feet per day.
Tinubu expressed his appreciation for the caliber of individuals involved in the Civil Society Group's initiatives.
"Thank you for instigating high-level intellectuality and inquisitiveness in governance. We have survived the edge of bankruptcy; we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel."
He elaborated on an ambitious infrastructure plan, stating, "We have an audacious project—the Sokoto-Badagry highway. Along that corridor, there are over 75 dams that can be used for irrigation and technology, and power generation that will serve the majority of Nigerians to improve the quality of life."
The President also provided an update on the progress in addressing the nation's security concerns, noting that the establishment of state police forces is under active consideration.
"It’s not a situation that you can rectify with a snap of the finger. We shall overcome."
Earlier, the Director General of CSCHEI, Kunle Yusuff, informed President Tinubu that the organisation operates as a UN-accredited non-profit entity, coordinating various Community-Based Organisations (CBOs), Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), and Faith-Based Organisations (FBOs) to advance socio- economic development and humanitarian aid.
Yusuff praised the Tinubu administration's decisive and transformative reforms, pledging the organisation's commitment to supporting government initiatives.
"Mr President, to describe you as the architect of Nigeria’s new financial infrastructure is neither hyperbolic nor gainsaying. The revenue outcomes have witnessed an exponential growth exceeding 300%," Yusuff stated.
He further commented on Nigeria's progress in fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Global Agenda 2030 and applauded the administration's policy regarding local government autonomy.
Yusuff also acknowledged the administration's achievements in infrastructure development, the National Education and Learning Facility Usage, and Social Investment Programmes, while advocating for an expanded reach for beneficiaries.
