The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has successfully conducted its 2027 promotion examination across its operational districts nationwide. This coordinated exercise highlights the Corporation's dedication to a merit-based system for career advancement and overall institutional development.
The examination, held concurrently last week Wednesday, was designed for staff occupying Grade Levels 08 through 13. A substantial number of participants from various departments within the Corporation took part in the assessment.
With over 3000 staff members sitting for the promotion examination, the event reflects both the significant scale of the exercise and the keen interest staff members have in advancing their careers within the NRC.
The examination venues included the Corporation’s Headquarters in Lagos, the Lagos District (Ebute-Metta), Western District (Ibadan), Eastern District (Enugu), North Western District (Minna), Northern District (Zaria), North Eastern District (Bauchi), and North Central District (Kafanchan). Additionally, the Abuja–Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) and Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) corridors also hosted examination centres.
To ensure the process was transparent, credible, and strictly followed established procedures, senior management officials from the Administration and Human Resources Department were assigned to supervise the examination at the different locations.
Dr. Monsurat Omotayo, Director of Administration and Human Resources, personally oversaw and monitored the examination proceedings at the Headquarters and Lagos District centres.
In remarks to the staff before the examination began, Dr. Omotayo stressed the importance of discipline, integrity, and adherence to all examination rules and regulations.
She encouraged candidates to maintain conduct befitting the Corporation's standards, emphasizing that the promotion exercise aims to recognize and reward dedication, competence, and commitment to duty.
Demonstrating full transparency and adherence to due process, Dr. Omotayo publicly opened the sealed examination papers in the presence of officials and candidates before the exercise commenced. Following this, the examination proceeded smoothly at all designated centres.
Reports from the various districts indicated that the examination was carried out successfully without any major issues. Candidates reportedly displayed a high level of readiness and professionalism throughout the process.
The NRC management reiterated that the promotion examination is a vital part of its human capital development strategy. Its objectives include motivating employees, boosting productivity, and ensuring the Corporation cultivates a skilled workforce capable of providing efficient and dependable rail services nationwide.
