The Niger State Police Command has taken a nursing student into custody after a lecturer from Newgate University, Minna, died following a visit to her residence.

As reported by security analyst Zagazola Makama, on January 27, 2026, around 10:00 a.m., Engr. Dr. Otori Abdulfatai Aiyede, a staff member at Federal Polytechnic Bida, called on Stella Joseph, a student at the Niger State School of Nursing and Midwifery, Tunga, Minna, to introduce himself as her new lecturer.

During this visit, the student reportedly offered the lecturer a meal of spaghetti and eggs. Shortly after consuming the food, he began to convulse and subsequently collapsed, according to the source.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Tudun-Wada Division swiftly dispatched a team to the location. The lecturer was then transported to the General Hospital in Minna but was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival. His body has been sent to the hospital’s mortuary for an autopsy.

The nursing student has been placed under arrest, and authorities are currently investigating the details surrounding this tragic incident.
