Former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has reaffirmed his lifelong dedication to golf, asserting that only death can sever his ties to the sport. He expressed his intent to keep participating in and promoting golf and other sporting activities throughout his life.
Oyinlola made this statement during a weekend golf tournament held in his honor to celebrate his 75th birthday at the Ile-Ogbo Golf Course and Resort, organized by Engineer Olanrewaju Adeleke, the founder of LanreLeke Sports Academy.
He voiced great satisfaction with the development of golf in Osun State, highlighting the establishment of the golf course as a significant encouragement for sports lovers across the region.
"I take pride in being part of the golf community, and only death can get in the way of my passion for the game. Therefore, I must extend my heartfelt thanks to the founder of LanreLeke Sports Academy and Ile-Ogbo Golf Course for providing this facility in our state. This has indeed inspired many golfers and sports aficionados," Oyinlola remarked.
He also expressed gratitude towards Adeleke for organizing the tournament in celebration of his birthday, noting that the commitment to continue hosting such events was a testament to Adeleke's benevolence. Oyinlola remained hopeful that this center would eventually nurture world-class talents in golf.
In addition to his remarks about sports, Oyinlola took the opportunity to advocate for peace, unity, and shared accountability among Nigerians, emphasizing that national progress hinges on collective effort.
Earlier, Adeleke praised Oyinlola as a guiding light and a symbol of golf within Nigeria, acknowledging his substantial contributions to sports development in Osun and beyond. He revealed plans to elevate the golf course into a premier tourist attraction, mentioning that a ten-year development strategy is already in progress.
The event drew distinguished guests and golfers from across the nation, who recognized Oyinlola as a source of inspiration and hope for both the young and the elderly.
