Peter Obi has made a donation of ₦15 million to institutions affiliated with the Anglican Church in Anambra, asserting that these churches are stepping up to fill the void left by governmental shortcomings in health and education sectors.
The 2027 presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) allocated ₦10 million to the ADON College of Health Technology located in Nnewi, and an additional ₦5 million to the ADON Vocational and Technical Academy in Ozubulu, within the Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.
During his visit, Obi expressed that each interaction with faith-based organizations reinforces his belief that churches are stepping in to address the inadequacies of the government in providing essential services like education, healthcare, and social support to the populace.
He explained that his ongoing support for such entities is motivated by the necessity to bolster institutions that bridge critical gaps left by governmental efforts.
“I visited last year, and the cheque received then was part of a prior commitment. I am here today to deliver ₦10 million for this year,” Obi remarked during his stop at the College of Health Technology. He emphasized that students represent the future of Nigeria and advocated for backing institutions that play a pivotal role in their development.
“Students are integral to our youth and they lay the groundwork for the type of future we envision for our country. We must ensure we provide adequate support to the institutions that are shaping their futures,” he stated.
Obi highlighted the proactive role of the Anglican Diocese, asserting that it is fulfilling responsibilities that government officials should undertake, and urged for ongoing prayer for the church's leadership in its educational outreach.
At the ADON Vocational and Technical Academy in Ozubulu, Obi scrutinized the facilities prior to handing over the ₦5 million cheque to the rector, Rev. Engr. Prince Igwe, further affirming his dedication to vocational training and skill acquisition efforts.
