Authorities from the Abia State Police Command have taken into custody a 47-year-old man, Chukwuemeka Nwaobilor, who was found in possession of a voter registration machine belonging to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Reportedly by The Nation, Nwaobilor was apprehended at a football ground in Mbawsi, located within the Isiala Ngwa North local government of the state, while operating an INEC registration device that was designated for voter registration in Isiala Ngwa South.
Preliminary information suggests that Nwaobilor, an INEC staff member posted in Isiala Ngwa South, may have been colluding with unnamed politicians from both the Isiala Ngwa North and South constituencies.
Police officials from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Isiala Ngwa North, along with the Divisional officer and the Mayor of Isiala Ngwa LGA, executed the arrest based on a confidential tip-off.
After his detention, he was swiftly transported to the Abia State Police Command Headquarters for further interrogation.
In a phone interview, Mr. Victor Abraham, an INEC staff from Abia State, affirmed the incident of the arrest while indicating that management was convening to confirm the identity of the arrested individual.
