The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has instituted a movement restriction lasting twelve hours across the FCT in preparation for the Area Council elections taking place on February 21, 2026.

A statement from the Command's spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, highlighted that this directive applies to all residents in the territory, except for those providing essential services and accredited election officials.

"The restriction will apply to all residents except essential service providers and duly accredited election officials," she asserted.

The police urged citizens to remain calm, obey the law, and support the security personnel during the exercise, underscoring the need for community cooperation to ensure a safe, free, and credible election.

Furthermore, individuals in the community were encouraged to report any suspicious persons or activities using the Command's emergency numbers: 08032003913 and 08061581938.

According to the police, this temporary movement ban is part of broader security strategies implemented to uphold law and order in the FCT's six Area Councils during the elections.
