Police Officer Imprisoned for Falsely Accusing Colleague of Sexual Assault

A police officer has received a one-year prison sentence after falsely alleging that a fellow officer sexually assaulted her in an attempt to justify being late for work.

Thirty-four-year-old Lauren Evans claimed that an undercover police officer driving an unmarked vehicle had stopped her in March 2023, falsely stating his name was 'Watson.'

The following day, PC Alex Watson, whom Evans had never encountered before, was apprehended in front of his family as they returned home from a wedding.

Coincidentally, Watson was operating an unmarked vehicle in the vicinity of the alleged incident.

He was taken into custody and spent 23 hours behind bars before detectives uncovered that Evans had fabricated the story.

In a statement reported by The Sun, Mr. Watson expressed his outrage, stating, 'It is disgraceful to fabricate an allegation of this nature. I was treated like a violent criminal.'

He further remarked that he and his wife, who both have had three decades of service in the Metropolitan Police, felt deeply betrayed by their organization.

In December, Evans was convicted of obstructing justice.

One month later, she was dismissed for misconduct during a disciplinary hearing and is set to be included on the Policing Barred List.

Judge Martin Griffith noted that the entire situation stemmed from a 'simple lie' that was likely motivated by her being late for work.

Evans was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court located in South London.
