The spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, has addressed a viral video showing a police officer soliciting money from a German national named Clement, who was in transit.

Clement was making his way to South Africa by road and encountered several police checkpoints in Nigeria. In the footage he shared, he detailed how most officers he met were courteous and encouraged him to proceed safely, with some even offering prayers during their interactions. However, one officer broke from this positive trend by explicitly requesting money.

"Give me dollars. We want to buy fuel. You are to give us money. We are providing service, safety on the road," the officer demanded.

Clement immediately responded, explaining that he was not obliged to give money since the officer receives a salary from the government.

In reaction to the video, ACP Hundeyin commended the other officers for their professionalism, highlighting that there will always be individuals who tarnish the reputation of a group.
