The Polish ambassador has identified Nigeria as a crucial pillar for stability in West Africa, applauding the pivotal contributions of the Nigerian Armed Forces, especially the Nigerian Air Force, in counter-insurgency campaigns and regional security efforts.

This statement was conveyed by the Polish Ambassador to Nigeria, Michał Cygan, during an official meeting with the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Sunday Kelvin Aneke, at the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters located in Abuja.

The information was released through a statement from the Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force, Ehimen Ejodame.

During his visit, Ambassador Cygan commended the professionalism, endurance, and operational capability of the Nigerian Armed Forces, emphasizing how Nigeria's ongoing security initiatives and strategic leadership substantially contribute to peace and stability within the West African region.

He also expressed Poland’s eagerness to enhance bilateral defense relations with Nigeria through practical and mutually beneficial collaborations that align with Nigeria’s security needs. He underscored Nigeria’s central role in the security framework of the region, highlighting the necessity for improved cooperation, particularly in areas addressing counter-terrorism and counter- insurgency.

In response, Air Marshal Aneke stressed the increasing importance of strategic international alliances in addressing modern and asymmetric security challenges. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force's dedication to utilizing partnerships with friendly nations to enhance operational capabilities, support capacity building, and foster intelligence and information sharing.

The Chief of the Air Staff reiterated the Service’s willingness to pursue partnerships that yield meaningful results, enhance counter-insurgency abilities, and contribute to security on both regional and global scales.

Discussions during the engagement were centered on fortifying bilateral defense cooperation, focusing on identifying collaborative areas that would bolster the Nigerian Air Force’s current counter-insurgency operations across the country.

Ultimately, the visit highlighted the strategic importance of defense diplomacy in fostering mutual understanding, improving operational collaboration, and deepening bilateral relations between Nigeria and Poland. It also reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to professionalism, partnership, and ongoing involvement in achieving peace and stability throughout the region.
