Rodri, the midfielder for Manchester City, has left the door open for a possible transfer to Real Madrid.
In an interview with Spanish radio station Onda Cero, he mentioned his aspirations to play in Spain once more during his career.
The former Ballon d'Or winner previously played for Atletico Madrid before joining City in 2019. He made it clear that the rivalry between the two Madrid clubs would not be a barrier to signing with Real Madrid if the chance arises.
"I never intended to play outside Spain throughout my career, but when the opportunity at Manchester City presented itself in 2019, I accepted. I have a year remaining on my contract with Man City, and we will need to discuss my future soon," Rodri stated to reporters while on national duty for Spain.
He added, "Would I like to play in Spain again? In LaLiga, in Madrid? Yes, I would like to return."
Rodri further explained, "Having previously played for Atletico will not stop me from joining Real Madrid. Several players have transitioned between the two clubs, perhaps not via direct transfers, but it has happened eventually."
"Turning down one of the world's top teams is not an option. Regardless of their current form, Real Madrid remains a prestigious club. The possibility is not ruled out,"
he noted, describing the experience of playing at the Bernabeu as remarkable and a bit intimidating.
In the 2024 Ballon d'Or voting, Rodri surpassed Madrid’s Vinicius Junior, which led to Los Blancos boycotting the ceremony.
"I hold no ill will towards Vini," he remarked to Onda Cero. "I have the utmost respect for him and appreciate everything he accomplished that year. The winner is determined by others, and while there were attempts to pit us against each other, that's not the reality."
