Rodri, who plays as a midfielder for Manchester City, has been penalized with a fine of £80,000 for admitting to an FA charge linked to statements he made concerning the referee after the Premier League match against Tottenham, which ended in a draw last month.
The Spanish star raised concerns about referee Robert Jones, suggesting he was not "neutral" during the 2-2 match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in February. This charge comes after Manchester City expressed frustration over a controversial episode during the match, where replays indicated that Dominic Solanke had made contact with Marc Guéhi's leg to score, allowing the home team to equalize after trailing 2-0.
On Monday, the FA released a statement confirming that an independent regulatory commission had sanctioned Rodri for his media remarks after the game on February 1. The statement indicated that the midfielder's comments implied bias or questioned the integrity of the officials, violating FA Rule E3.1.
Rodri accepted responsibility for his comments. Following the hearing, the Regulatory Commission decided on the £80,000 fine and issued a warning regarding his future conduct.
In response to the incident, Rodri mentioned that Manchester City had experienced similar officiating decisions in previous matches. In an apology, he referred to two instances—one involving a challenge by Manchester United's Diogo Dalot on Jérémy Doku during the derby loss and another that saw an Antoine Semenyo goal disallowed in the Carabao Cup semifinal first leg against Newcastle.
