The president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o, has been issued a four-game suspension following allegations of misconduct during his team's defeat to Morocco in the Africa Cup of Nations.
On Wednesday, the federation, also recognized as FECAFOOT, acknowledged the disciplinary committee's ruling from the Confederation of African Football, which included the suspension alongside a $20,000 fine. However, they expressed that the decision lacked adequate justification.
“FECAFOOT also points out that the expedited process leading to this ruling poses significant concerns about the essential elements of a fair trial,” the federation stated.
CAF announced on Monday that it was probing incidents that transpired during the quarterfinal matches involving Cameroon and Morocco, as well as Algeria and Nigeria.
Although CAF did not specify any particular occurrences from the Morocco- Cameroon match, Eto’o's conduct was prominently noted. He was observed expressing frustration through gestures directed at Moroccan president Fouzi Lekjaa, while CAF president Patrice Motsepe was nearby.
“FECAFOOT reiterates its strong support for its president and emphasizes its commitment to maintaining the principles of credible disciplinary justice,” the federation affirmed.
