The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has lauded the Kano State Government for the respect and recognition extended to the emirate, highlighting the significance of education in fostering both leadership capabilities and individual growth.
Sanusi articulated these sentiments during the Hawan Nasarawa Durbar, which took place at the Government House in Kano, as part of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
"We appreciate the honor and recognition being given to us by the Kano State Government," he stated.
Additionally, the monarch addressed recent public sentiments regarding his return to academic endeavors, clarifying that his choice is independent of any ongoing legal matters.
"My return to school is not because of court matters, but to encourage others," he affirmed.
Sanusi emphasized that prioritizing education over traditional titles is essential, asserting that knowledge greatly enhances leadership effectiveness and earns societal esteem.
"Those who critique my decision to go back to school should realize that education comes before kingship," he commented.
He further elaborated on the importance of education in traditional governance, stating, "A king who acquires education gains greater dignity, but a king without education—his entire kingship is worthless."
These comments from the emir arise amidst ongoing discussions regarding the intersections of leadership, tradition, and contemporary education within the framework of the emirate
The Hawan Nasarawa Durbar, a key highlight of Sallah festivities in Kano, was adapted this year following government guidelines intended to maintain peace and security throughout the state.
