A 42-year-old Nigerian citizen named Odudu Ukpanah is currently facing charges of attempted homicide in connection with an alleged assault on a pregnant woman that took place in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, United States.
According to reports from LIB, Ukpanah, who is the only son of the late Engr. Albert Jimmy Ukpanah, a prominent politician from Akwa Ibom State, was previously accused of murdering his father but was acquitted on June 2, 2016, by the High Court of Akwa Ibom State under the judgment of Justice Ezekiel.
The late politician was killed on March 12, 2014, at his home.
The recent incident reportedly occurred on November 7, 2025, but details only emerged on January 17, 2026, after former classmates from Akwa Ibom revealed the situation.
In regard to the attack, police have formally charged Ukpanah with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, strangulation, and aggravated assault against an unborn child stemming from the incident at Seven Gables Apartments.
On that day, officers arrived at the scene shortly before noon to find a woman suffering from significant head injuries, who was intermittently losing consciousness as they assisted her.
Witnesses recounted that Ukpanah choked the victim, who was three months pregnant, and forcefully slammed her to the ground before fleeing the scene when others came forward. The police stated that Ukpanah later returned to the scene to continue the assault.
Authorities located him at a nearby apartment and took him into custody.
Following his arrest, Ukpanah was brought before Magisterial District Judge David Rogers and is now detained at Cumberland County Prison without the possibility of bail.
